Activities I enjoy:

I like conferences and conventions in fields of interest to me, primarily because they bring out people I am going to be interested in, as well. Yeah, the subject matter is of interest and there may be interesting things to read or do, but mostly, every time, it is the people.

And unlike some folks, strangers and near-strangers qualify, even when they are in large numbers. I have no problems isolating one or two or so to talk with.

People I like and miss:

Going to familiar events or unfamiliar events that are frequented by those I know are a hoot, as noted, for the people. And when the people are ones I already know and like to hang out with or chat with, then it is all the better.

This function includes folks whom I see less than once per year, often. In particular, my friend Rick has been good to see. It has also served as an excuse to pull Leslie down from Maine - somebody both Susan and I enjoy having over, even (for Susan) with the mess! No debate on if she can stay or not.

Adding little extra fluff to an otherwise good day:

In this instance, there are a couple of good bits. I LOVE talking to you, Rachel! And doing that makes any good day better, and makes many less good days more tolerable.

Being useful improves things. I came up with several ways to be very useful to Gillian or her major speakers, without going terribly far out of my way in the process. I found and printed some data from our state's website that others were not finding, and I also helped another staff member to do the work her panel leader needed. Brownie points abound!!
