How to Lie to a Child

I've just added [livejournal.com profile] basic_inst to my friends list. [livejournal.com profile] llennhoff sent me a link to How to Lie to a Child, and that, alone, sold me.

Mental Influence

Perhaps an appropriate companion post to that on How to Lie to a Child is this, on Mental Influence.

I don't mean the art of persuasion or debate or discourse. I mean the sending of mind waves at/to another person to cause that person to change a thought or an action.

William Walter Atkinson, in 1908, put out his book Mental Influence, explaining in great detail exactly how this all works. It makes for fascinating reading.

I found it in a used bookstore. I was curious and looked to see if it was on-line, and it is, as noted above. But when I was looking for it, I found a link also to William Braud's Distant Mental Influence: Its Contributions to Science, Healing, and Human Interactions - a 2003 book.

Well, I thought it was a 2003 book...

It turns out that Braud's is from 1909. Both it and the Atkinson are again in print - the Atkinson just last year!!

Wow.
