This was my first Boskone without my spouse in a long time. It was a little weird in that way.
I do not go for the panels. I do not go for the anime. I do not go for the huckster's room, per se. I go for the people. In that regard, this Boskone was a resounding success.
There are three types of people I go for:
1) The people whom I see at Boskone and basically nowhere else. I got to see plenty of them - and it was grand. Who knows, I may get to see Shayin in California before the year is out. BIQ Sunnyvale, anybody? Dwight from WPI; James T and Ben L, my former HSSP students; Chip and Davee; any number of other such folks... it was good to see them. And I am beginning to pick up a Jules habit...
2) The people whom I get to see in other places and other times, but not so often as I might like. Seeing Eric Van (and hearing his exciting news) was great. Bumping into Louise took a bit off my mind. Spencer and Persis, whom I hope to see a bit more often... Tammy, Tim, Beans, Jacob, and Ebeth, all of whom I see more than many folks see them, but none of whom I see nearly often enough! And Rachel, whom I have seen three times now - but whom I hope to see many many more times down the road...
3) The people whom I have not previously met and therefore do not know enough to look for, but whom, having found, I intend to seek out again and again! Jordan, Talia, and Amos fall into this category. So, too, do Leen, Stacen, Emily, Arika, Sarah, Shannon, Alex, and Thomas! The final member of this group, this Boskone, has to be Kendra. I hope to see at least one and possibly more of you at one or another BIQ during the year...
Probably the programming highlight of this Boskone, for me, had to be Tammy's reading of the excerpts from Will of the Empress (The Circle Reforged). As the Circle characters are really what brought me into Tammy's 'circle' and her into mine, I have a certain fondness for these adolescent miscreants. Methinks they would fit in fine with the groups above or at a BIQ.
The major downside for me was outside world creeping in and requiring attention in less than positive ways. But that was helped out by the hallway conversations until past 4am (for me) with the Alphas... Thanks, Leen and everybody - you really made my Con much better!
