1. Total number of books I've owned: 30-35,000
2. Last book I bought: for myself: Guy Gavriel Kay's The Last Light of the Sun (which is wonderful so far) and Migration by Julie Czerneda, whih forms a duality with her Survival, and which is a great tale for both adventure and perspective. For someone else: Merriam-Webster's 11th Collegiate Dictionary and Collegiate Roget's Thesaurus, as the ESPN Baseball Encyclopedia. Do gift certificates count? Got one o those at the same time. Not saying for whom any of these is.
3. Last book I read: Currently reading "The Last Light of the Sun" as mentioned, and rereading "Giftedness, Conflict, and Underachievement" by Joanne Rand Whitmore. This is possibly the single best book on the subject ever. I wish she would update it. Last book I finished was "Migration.".
4. 5 books that mean a lot to me (not in any particular order):
a. To Sir With Love - E.R. Braithwaite. Perhaps more than the movie, it drove home for me the power o a caring soul in the lives of others.
b. The Oz series - L.Frank Baum. My introduction to magic, to fantasy... and my first real connection to my mom.
c. Children of the Atom - Wilmar Shiras. A clear depiction of different kinds of gifted kids and how they do and don't cope; coupled with the public's reaction to their getting together.
d. Telepathist (The Whole Man) - John Brunner. The need for us to heal ourselves in order for us to best heal others. The vulnerability of the sensitive.
e. X-Men comics - Stan Lee, Chris Claremont, and others. The reviling of the different. The need for them to not lash out. Self-acceptence.
Bonus selection:
f. The Circle of Magic series - Tamora Pierce. Tammy's depiction of the lives of those who do not fit in for the strangeness of their powers is poignant. It drew my attention to her. She, since, has introduced me to a large cast of individuals (characters?), each of whom has strange powers!
5. Tag 5 people and have them fill this out in their LJs:
