Police Dog runs away - here's why
Aug. 12th, 2005 08:34 pmA DPS canine officer named Buddy The Drug Sniffing Dog has apparently run away from his enclosure in the Stone Oaks subdivision. DPS was asking the public to keep an eye out for Buddy the Drug Sniffing Dog.
Radio station KTSA asked that Buddy call in and let the public know that he's okay.
So... Buddy called in. He explained that he's in CA now. He's going to amsterdam, he has some friends there, and then to the far east.
Shortly after Buddy called, another call came in, to offer an expert opinion.
"Clearly, he is a classic example of job burnout. And clearly, DPS needs to become more aware of and more sensitive to the needs of its canine employees. I mean, his NAME is "Buddy the Drug Sniffing Dog", for heaven's sake -- is it any wonder that he's been defining himself in terms of his work, or that he has not nurtured any intrinsic self-esteem?
Buddy (still on the phone) interjected at this point, that "Actually, I prefer 'Bud'."

I have it on reasonable authority that the following aspects are also true:
The hosts had a fabulous time. So did the expert caller. The producer said she had mores calls on it than any DPS story they've ever done -- & asked the 'expert,' "Are you like this all the time or do you take medication?"

Truth remains stranger than fiction.
