I committed to providing some material for crazyprogrammer to use for his class final project in history - artifacts from the viet nam war era - relevant to that dispute. And I found one set of things and provided a replacement for the other.

Along the same lines, I have been helping my parents. They are preparing to sell their house, the house I grew up in after about age 5.

It has many things remaining from those years - things of mine, my brother's, and my sister's.

I found a picture of my grandfather in his Russian Army uniform - a picture that my father has been looking for for years. I found a picture of my mom when she was about 8 or so, doing a split in her ballet outfit.

Pictures of her from her early to late teens - and pictures she took of camp counselors... with their shirts off! woo woo! "Picture of my hand. October, 1946" "Picture of the drain on my porch, October, 1946" Other such things.

As much of interest are the books from my sibs childhoods and high school years. My mom wanted to know whose books were on a particular closet shelf. "How can you not know these are his? The Southeast Asia book, the "isms" book? The Spanish books when she took French? And... his name inside the front cover of many of them?"

There was a box of clippings and magazines and articles and handouts - along with a pair of armbands that said Captain - he was in one of the major walks on Washington against the Viet Nam war. He also had a program for a conference he attended (he was 18 maybe?) on campus unrest - but he doesn't remember that.

Many other pictures were up in the attic, and my sister's kindergarten report card, my Hardy Boy and Tom Swift books are there as well. Some comics - not all of them got thrown away - I will go through to see what if anything is valuable... or worth saving.

I suspect I will end up with some 5-8 boxes worth of stuff - in addition to what I merely recycle or throw away. But I also have found stuff that they are not ready to let go of, either. I found a roll of undeveloped film, for example - and pictures from what I think was my mother's trip to Europe in the late 40's (to get her away from my father, goes teh story).

Time capsules...
