Petty Annoyances
Jan. 16th, 2007 04:09 am1) The fine folks at A&E have lured me into the purchasing realm by offering at a sharp discount the first two seasons of The Tomorrow People, a British science fiction series from the 70's, with all that means. There are those who liken it to X-Men and those who poo-poo such a notion, but regardless, I'd heard good things about it.
So, I ordered it and was quite pleased when I got it and went immediately to play it. Of course, inside the case for Year 1, Volume 1 was Year 1, Volume 4. I checked the Volume 4 case, but it held Volume 4, also.
I called up the fine folks at A&E. They were terribly apologetic. I could keep the already received set (oh joy) for my trouble and they would overnight a replacement as soon as possible. The replacement arrived today.
The case for Volume 1 held Volume 4. There was no Volume 1 to be had in either set. I have called again - and this time, they are supposed to LOOK before they send. (And yes, I played it, it is labeled correctly.)
2) We have not been having winter here. A week and a bit ago, we set a new high of 69, beating the old one by 7 degrees! (I want to say more than 10% just to see who I rile, but I won't.)
Today, we have had some winter. Freezing rain through last night and into the day time. Around 5:30pm, our power flickered. At 9pm, it went out. It came back on in less than 2 hours (and I give a round of applause to the folks at Unitil for their work). But all night, so far, there have been cracks and groans, as the trees struggle under their burdens.
I suspect when I awaken tomorrow I will see a goodly number of very damaged trees. They were not ready for this at all!
And the cracks wake me up each time.
