Puzzling Puzzles
Jan. 18th, 2007 02:17 amThe New Zealand Air Force came up with a terribly clever recruitment device. They have a series of on-line puzzles for folks to solve. There is the sense of belonging that comes from their snail mailing wrist bands to joiners - and then as you solve more and more, you get different color bands. There will be 28 puzzles - and you get a different band at 12 and then 24.
The problem is that some of the puzzles are broken. The answers are wrong. In one case, not only does the problem not work if you do the math, but even if you did it the way they want you to and ignore the fact that they totally messed up, they ask for an area, but the "correct" answer is one side of the square whose area you were supposed to be seeking.
Joining is only for Kiwis, but the puzzles are still amusing to look at - and if you ignore the fact that the provided forums (fora) have the answers in them to copy if one wishes, it can be fun - even if sometimes the fun is to figure out how broken an answer is!
